Türkiye’s Oscar Submission "Life" Premieres at New York’s Turkish House
Türkiye’s official submission for the 2025 Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category, “Life,” directed by acclaimed filmmaker Zeki Demirkubuz, premiered at the Turkish House (Türkevi) in New York. The event gathered cinema enthusiasts, industry professionals, and prominent guests for an unforgettable evening of storytelling and cinematic excellence.
A Star-Studded Premiere
The premiere, held on Friday, was attended by director Zeki Demirkubuz, lead actor Cem Davran, and several cast members. The Story of Life
The film follows the journey of Hicran, portrayed by Miray Daner, a young woman forced into an engagement by her father. Unable to accept her fate, she runs away from home. Her fiancé, Rıza, played by Burak Dakak, initially dismisses her actions but becomes increasingly troubled and sets out on a quest to find her. His journey takes him to Istanbul, where he faces challenges and self-discovery as he searches for the woman he has only met once.

Prior to its New York premiere, “Life” was showcased at the Hollywood-Turkish Film and Drama Days event held at Sony Studios in Los Angeles on Nov. 16. Organized by Türkiye’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, this screening marked another significant milestone in the film’s international journey.
