El Turco: Can Yaman’s Highly Anticipated New Series Set to Premiere in 2025

Can Yaman fans have a lot to look forward to! The Turkish actor’s latest project, El Turco, is generating excitement worldwide. Originally planned for Disney Plus, the series rights were transferred to Ay Yapım after Disney briefly exited the Turkish market. What Is El Turco About?

Set in the 17th century, the story follows Hasan Balaban, an Ottoman Janissary soldier. After the Ottoman army loses the Battle of Vienna in 1683, he finds himself in the Italian town of Moeno. As a result, Balaban becomes a prisoner. However, he soon escapes and inspires a local uprising, which transforms him into the legendary “El Turco.” Notably, the series is based on Orhan Yeniaras’ novel, blending history, drama, and action to create a thrilling experience.

Filmed mainly in Hungary, El Turco boasts an international cast from nine different countries and is shot in English. This global approach adds depth to the storytelling. Furthermore, cinematographer Tolga Kutluay brings stunning visuals to enhance the series’ authenticity and feel.

Can Yaman leads a talented cast that includes Greta Ferro, Will Kemp, and Slavko Sobin. Yaman had to train hard to embody his role. In an interview with Variety, he shared, “Filming El Turco in Hungary was quite challenging. I had to live like an athlete, mastering skills like horse riding, sword fighting, and speaking English fluently. With a diverse cast and a new genre, it pushed my limits as an actor.”

The Road to the Premiere

Excitement is growing for El Turco. Its first presentation will be held at the Mipcom Fair in Cannes, France, on October 21 and 24. In addition, Can Yaman will attend a special event dedicated to the series at the Cannes Carlton Grand Salon on October 21. During this event, fans will get an exclusive look at the show’s first images. According to IMDb, El Turco will officially premiere in Turkey in February 2025, with a worldwide release to follow.
